Oh Shoot! will be closed on Halloween, Friday, October 31

Dear Beloved Customers,

Head Elf has decided to close the shop on Halloween, October 31.

She figures the Oh Shoot! Elves need a break. See, the Keebler Elves are throwing a special Halloween party and we have to get there early. That's the only way you can get access to warm cookies fresh from their magical ovens. There's nothing like those soft batch treats - they warm our hearts like an expired roll of 120 film does.

We hear the Seven Dwarves will be there too - and they're bringing Snow White (and a lot of margaritas).

Cookies, margaritas, jello shots - that is our recipe for a rocking Halloween party.

We will be back in the shop on Monday, November 3. And we will do our best not to have a hangover.

We hope you enjoy your Halloween too!

Love, film and cameras,

The Oh Shoot! Elves

FILM FEVER! (new stocks alert)

Are you smarter than an Oh Shoot! Elf?

Pop quiz, hotshot!

Why is Oh Shoot! Elf # 4 salivating?

A) Because Head Elf is making jello shots.
B) Because she can smell mac and cheese.
C) Because she has too much saliva.
D) Because Oh Shoot!'s film stocks have arrived.

And the answer is, D.

We can't blame Elf # 4 for salivating. Because boxes and boxes of film have landed at Head Elf's headquarters. That was a pretty crazy day - with elves clambering on top of each other, trying to dive into the big pile of film.

They have since been whipped into submission and the rolls have been sorted, stamped and smelled and they are now available at Oh Shoot!

Slides, negs, 120, 220, 135, 110 - we have them all.

Kodak Elitechrome, Konica Centuria Slides, Fuji Provia 400F, Fuji Provia 100F, Kodak Portra, Kodak Elitechrome E200, Fuji Velvia 100F, Fuji Astia - let the sexy film names roll off your tongue.

For a complete list of films available at Oh Shoot! and for instructions on how to order, visit
Oh Shoot!'s Got Film? page.

The truth about elves and gnomes (and all the other little people)

By Elf #7

I need to get this off my chest.

I tried ignoring it but it just happens too often. Please stop confusing us elves with other little people. We are not gnomes (god forbid!), we are not leprechauns, we are not dwarves, we are not trolls, we are not hobbits, we are not goblins, we are not Smurfs.

I do not know Snow White, I don't like Lucky Charms, I will not chase after a ring and no, Gargamel has nothing against me.

Just to make sure you don't make the same mistake again, let me make the differences clear:

Gnomes

Mostly male, bearded and grumpy, gnomes have no sense of humor. Can't blame them though - hanging out in gardens all the time will kill my sense of humor too.
Famous gnomes: Amelie's traveling garden gnome, the annoying gnomes in Harry Potter

Dwarves

They are short, unattractive and have a soft spot for fair-skinned women who eat poisoned apples.
Famous dwarves: Happy, Grumpy, Sneezy, Sleepy, Dopey, Doc, Bashful

Leprechauns

Personally, I like leprechauns. They are Irish, cheerful and mischievous. They are very rich too, they hide gold everywhere, making them a target for humans. I was surprised they allowed themselves to be plastered on cereal boxes. It's not like they need the cash.
Famous leprechauns: the Lucky Charms guy, Conan O' Brien

Goblins

Evil, crabby, grotesquely disfigured, annoying creatures. I beat one up a couple of years back. Needless to say, we are not friends with them.
Famous goblins: None so far (and I'm not surprised)

Imps

Mischievous little demons who serve witches.
Famous imps: None either (and I'm glad)

Hobbits

Inhabitants of middle-earth who eat at least seven meals a day. (I like that part.)
Famous hobbits: Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Peregrin Took, Merladoc Brandybuck

Trolls

Little people with weird costumes and crazy hair in all colors of the rainbow. There are giant trolls as well - but since you will never confuse them with us, we don't need to talk about them.
Famous trolls: The Russ trolls

Smurfs

They're blue. And, if rumors are true, they're about to make a comeback.
Famous Smurfs: Papa Smurf, Smurfette

Chucky

My, don't even get me started. That murderous freak killed Elf #36. Poor  guy never had a chance.
Famous Chuckys: There's only one, thank god.

Elves

Adorable, intelligent, incredibly sexy little people who live in boxes, sell cameras, party a lot (when the Head Elf is a way) and survive on jello shots.
Famous elves: The Oh Shoot! Elves

Say hello to Oh Shoot!'s newest elf

Look...

new elf

Who can this little person be?

Humans, say hello to Oh Shoot! Elf # 24, Oh Shoot!'s newest elf.

new elf

New Elf Days rock! They are almost better than Delivery Days!

I got so excited Head Elf ordered me to stand in one corner. For an hour. Not fun.

Oh Shoot! Elf #24 came in wearing a scary mask.

new elf

Head Elf immediately asked him to take the mask off, saying, "Hats are for elves, masks are for.. weirdos."

Don't tell Head Elf but I quickly snatched Oh Shoot! Elf #24's mask and hid it in my box. I heard there's going to be an awesome Halloween ball later this year, I'm hoping us elves will be invited.

Oh Shoot! Elf #24 immediately started working. He ordered Oh Shoot! Elf #12 to fix the stocks in the boxes. And so Oh Shoot! Elf #12 started referring to him as Bossy Elf.

new elf

Bossy or not, he managed to put order in the boxes. Naturally, Head Elf was impressed. And so Oh Shoot! Elf #24 was given a new title - Quality Control Elf.

He spent hours inspecting the cameras. He seemed to like the multi-colored Holga a lot.

new elf

new elf

And the cake. The insane chocolate cake which, strangely, he was allowed to eat when the other elves were not allowed to touch it.

new elf

And the boxes.

new elf

And the Oh Shoot! Duck. Oh he loved the duck.

new elf

He also loved Dotty the chicken.

new elf

But Head Elf wouldn't let him keep it. Head Elf has a strange attachment to that spotty chicken. Head Elf always says something about how she saved Dotty's life. I actually think the current exhibit Lomo Spotted was inspired by Dotty. Us elves call Dotty Chicken Pox but don't tell Head Elf that.

It was a good day at the shop - there was a new elf, there were jellybeans, there was cake, there were nachos, there was beer, there was MonsterBot, there was Clown Boy, there was Flight Attendant With The Great Laugh, there was Emo Boy Who Loves Jellybeans and there were customers who bought all kinds of stuff.

I like customers who buy all kinds of stuff.

What long weekend??!

Reload your film stash, salivate over the lomo cams and spot spots on the Lomo Spotted wall.

Oh Shoot! is announcing special day shop hours:
June 8 (Sunday) - 1pm - 6pm
June 9 (Monday, Holiday) - What holiday?! Oh Shoot! will be open from 1pm - 6pm.

The elves are willing to give up their holidays because they like you too much. Drop by to say hi to them too.

See you there!

Why the Oh Shoot! Elves will never be allowed to shoot polaroids again

It is an Oh Shoot! tradition to shoot customers with their new purchases.

Cathy Lara listed this on Spot.ph as #2 on her list of five reasons you should check out Oh Shoot!

A few days ago, because the Head Elf was busy entertaining Clown Boy, she handed the Instax to Elf # 4 and told her to shoot the customer who just bought a Fisheye 2.

Click, Elf #4 hit the shutter and this photo came out:

elves

Just the Fisheye 2, no face of the customer.

Head Elf grabbed the Instax from Elf #4 and took a proper polaroid.

Elf #4 loudly protested, "But I can see her face from my angle!"

And that is why the Oh Shoot! Elves will never be allowed to shoot polaroids again.

A day in the life of an Oh Shoot! Elf

By Oh Shoot! Elf #8

9:07 a.m.: I was dreaming that someone was pinning me down and I couldn't breathe. I woke up and realized it wasn't a dream, a Holga 120 Starter Kit had fallen on top of me. I should talk to Elf #3 about switching sleeping quarters. The lucky freak gets to sleep in the Colorsplash Flash box. They don't hurt as much when they fall on you.

10:20 a.m.: I wake up and stretch. Or at least try to. Stretching in a wooden box isn't easy - not even with my little frame - so I jump out.

10:23 a.m.: I see chips on the table. I wonder how much of it I can eat without Head Elf noticing?

10:45 a.m.: These Clover chips are a wonderful human invention. And so is this lovely red sofa. I should sleep here tonight.

10:53: a.m.: I better stop eating before Head Elf gets here. I brush the crumbs off my shirt and sweep it under the pretty brown rug. I just hope Head Elf doesn't check the rug.

10:55 a.m.: I jump back into my box.

11:01 a.m.: It is eerily quiet in the shop. I push the box open and sneak a peek. Shop is still empty. But we're supposed to be open!

11:15 a.m.: Shop is supposed to be open but Head Elf still isn't here. The other elves are getting restless.

11:43 a.m.: Tsk, tsk. Still not here. Ooh, I might have more time to eat more Clover chips!

12:24 p.m.: I see Head Elf pulling up into the driveway. She brought her little car with her today - maybe it means she'll take us elves for a spin?

12:53 p.m.: Head Elf is inside the shop. I know because when she's here, the shop smells good.

12:57 p.m.: The shop has come alive. Some of us are packing orders, preparing them for delivery while some are answering e-mails. I e-mailed a girl in Antique to tell her that her package is coming. Oh Shoot! Elf #12 is hiding in the Supersampler box. He's unbelievably lazy.

1:06 p.m.: The Girl Who Never Shares arrives. I gave her that nickname because she always bring food with her but she never shares with us elves, only with Head Elf.

1:12 p.m.: The Girl Who Never Shares reaches into her bag and pulls out a pack of Oreos. Food! She rips the package open. I start taking bets - would she share? Would she not? She eats one cookie and hands the package to Head Elf. Head Elf shakes her head no. The Girl Who Never Shares puts the pack of Oreos down and starts typing away on her computer. What did I tell you?

1:23 p.m.: A man carrying a helmet walks into the store. He seems interested in the Supersampler. He writes for a magazine, he said. He wants to "hook us up." I don't know what that means but I hope it means us elves can appear in his magazine. We love posing for pictures!

1:51 p.m.: A woman walks in and spends the entire time tap-tapping away on her phone. She is at the shop checking out the goods for her boyfriend. Or husband. I'm not sure. They're interested in a Fisheye 2. Kids follow her in. Kids! I love kids! Too bad us elves aren't allowed to interact with customers face to face. Head Elf says we might scare them off, we get too excited.

2:12 p.m.: Back to answering e-mails.

2:19 p.m.: Yay! Delivery! New cameras! This is better than Christmas! Oh my god, I love delivery days!

2:21 p.m.: Head Elf's brother drops by again. He bought a Fisheye 2 last week and has already used up three rolls. Today, he bought more film. And I think he is on the verge of buying either a Holga 135 or a Vivitar UltraWide and Slim. I like this guy.

2:50 p.m.: Deliveries get me so excited. Head Elf said she'd slip Valium into my C2 the next time a shipment arrives. But how can you blame me for being excited? Fisheye in so many sexy colors! Blue! Yellow! Purple! Orange! The LC-A+ with a new carton packaging! Red Holga! Green Holga! Oh my god, I think I just peed in my little elf pants.

2:55 p.m.: Had to change my little elf pants. Head Elf made Elf #4 check if I washed my hands. Of course I did!

3:50 p.m.: Putting cameras in boxes is a lot harder than it looks - especially when your Head Elf is OC and makes sure you didn't mess up. But it's also a lot more fun than it looks. I had the greatest time making sure the Fisheye boxes were aligned. So many pretty Fisheye cameras, they will make so many people happy.

3:53 p.m.: I start to have evil thoughts. I wonder if Head Elf will notice if one of the orange Fisheyes go missing. But then I remember what happened to those elves and that ring. Or were they hobbits? Or dwarves? I'm not too sure, I just know us elves are much better looking. I returned the orange Fisheye in the Fisheye crate.

3:59 p.m.: I steal an Oreo while The Girl Who Never Shares wasn't looking. Nom nom nom nom nom.

4:02 p.m.: Head Elf shows me the Sidekick Bags that have just arrived. I love them! I can use one as a sleeping bag!

4:23 p.m.: Head Elf gave me the very difficult task of peeling the sealant from the wooden counter. My little elf fingers soon started to feel sore. But I kept peeling and peeling anyway.

4:46 p.m.: I am still peeling when a boy comes in with his father. His father smells good which is more than I can say for some of the other people who visit the shop. The boy buys rolls of film.

5:03 p.m.: Clown Boy arrives while I am still peeling. He is freakishly tall. He is the opposite of elves. I think from now on I'll call him Giant Clown Boy.

5:13 p.m.: An old woman comes in. She is interested in lomography. "It's like art," I heard her say. She wonders if she can use her digital Canon to shoot lomo. Uhh, no, lady, I wanted to shout from the wooden box where I was hiding. She wonders how she can achieve the fishnet effect. Uhh, you buy it from the hosiery section of your favorite department store. Okay, I should stop being mean. The Girl Who Never Shares answers the woman's questions patiently. They speak for an hour and the woman finally settles on the Fisheye 2 and two rolls of film. The old lady is actually nice - she wants to shoot her grandkids with her new camera. I think we will see more of her.

5:31 p.m.: Head Elf, The Girl Who Never Shares and Clown Boy eat chicken sandwiches, fries and onion rings from Burger King. But no Burger King for us elves. And you wonder why we want to eat film?

6:18 p.m.: The voice of god can be heard from below (yes, from below). It's time to close the shop. When god speaks, everyone listens. But we can't close the shop yet, the man who will pick up our shipment has not arrived.

6:29 p.m.: The Head Elf is on the phone with the shipping people. She is annoyed.

6:38 p.m.: The Head Elf is on the phone again with the shipping people. She is even more annoyed. "Let's go," she said to Clown Boy and The Girl Who Never Shares. They are going to another place (a place where elves aren't allowed, I guess, because she didn't invite us) - Nyarbucks, that's what she said.

6:49 p.m.: I realized with glee that The Girl Who Never Shares had left her Oreos behind. Goody! She will never see them again.

7:04 p.m.: The shop is quiet now. Quiet and dark. Everyone has left. I blow on my elf whistle. Head Elf left her iPod! Goody! The party is about to start.

7:48 p.m.: We share the jello shots that we swiped from Head Elf's jello shot session last Friday. Grape and strawberry! Gooooood.

8:01 p.m.: The elves are going a little crazy. Elves #2 and #9 are dancing on the red sofa. Elf #11 is bouncing on the tires. Elves #6 and #7 are walking on the ledge, screaming "Tightrope! Tightrope!" They are giving me a headache. I'm going to bed. I mean box.

When the Head Elf is away...

...the Oh Shoot! Elves draw, apparently.

When they aren't busy counting stocks, making jello shots, answering countless e-mails or sending positive vibes to customers in the store so they will discover the wonders of toy camera love, the Oh Shoot! Elves are allowed to play with the Head Elf's laptop.

They're no longer allowed to surf the internet though, not after they spent hours and hours searching for "dirty Snow White pics."

And because they don't have online access anymore, they started to draw. Found these two drawings saved on the Head Elf's desktop.

The first one was drawn by Oh Shoot! Elf #7:

And the second one was drawn by Elf #4:

The Head Elf is pleased they've found another way to spend their time. Obsessing over Disney princesses just isn't productive.

The Oh Shoot! Elves might just receive their first bonus soon - a Wacom pen.
